Tobacco
From 1 July 2017, you can bring 25 grams of tobacco in any form, equivalent to approximately 25 cigarettes, plus an open packet, for each traveler 18 years or older.
If you’re aged 18 years or older, you can bring in duty free:
- one unopen packet of up to 25 cigarettes (or the equivalent of 25 grams of tobacco products), and
- one open packet of cigarettes.
You can bring in up to 1.5 kilograms of smokeless tobacco (chewing tobacco or snuff) for personal use, but you will have to pay duty on any tobacco above 25 grams (only 25 grams is allowed duty free).
Penalties
If in doubt, always declare. Penalties may apply if goods are not declared.
Examples
Cigarettes, tobacco, cigars, chewing tobacco, snuff
Exceptions
If you bring in more than your duty free allowance for tobacco and cigarettes, you’ll need to pay duty on all of your tobacco and cigarettes, not just on the excess.
You must have a permit to bring in more than 1.5 kilograms of chewing tobacco or snuff.
